IAWE 2017: Local and Global Contexts of World Englishes

On a warm fall day in 2013 in sunny Pheonix, Arizona, I sat on a panel titled, “Centrifugal forces and policies/politics: From constructing the queer to facing the nation and points in between” at IAWE discussing world Englishes and its impacts across the globe. The panel was great because it was my first time at the conference, and I was joining my dissertation supervisor, my best friend, and some of my classmates on it.

This year, I’ll be returning to IAWE at Syracuse Univesity to give a presentation based on the work that some of my students and I started in the fall. It’s going to be another fun time and a chance to catch up with some old friends. I can’t wait.
